MonMae's BIGGEST Sale yet met with new feature announcements!
Hey guy! MonMae is currently undergoing it's biggest sale yet at 60% off. Of course, all matching assets, and the bundle pass are also undergoing sales~
I wanna take a moment to talk about what's next with MonMae, but firstly, check out the new trailer for MonMae, and Dokimon, the flagship game being made in MonMae:
https://yanako-rpgs.itch.io/retroyboy-bundle-pass
Here you'll be able to see the World Editor, complete with the trainer team builder, in action for the first time!
But wait, why is the World Editor Addition so Important?
The world editor has really broadened the horizon for what MonMae will be able to do, and for beginner devs that don't know how to code. This gives beginner devs the power more experience developers have, while also giving the experience devs more mobility and improved visual input when building their games.
Although we may only have NPC and Trainer builder tools at the moment, the world editor in and of itself will allow us to do FULL world creation in the editor very soon. This includes:
- Place and edit NPCs, Trainers and the Trainer's teams with quick visualization of their monster teams (already done and live)
- Placing tiles (houses, trees, etc) to build your worlds directly in the editor instead of using GM's bulky world tool
- Allow advanced tile editing, live. For example: Mirror a building, or Palette Swap a tree to a different color before placing it
- Place items, NPCs, Cutscene triggers, World blockers (trees, rocks, Crowds of people, etc) and other objects directly in the editor
- Quickly visualize events or story progression, for example by seeing path blockers and hints/tools needed to surpass them
- Build, track and preview Cutscenes right in the editor, without having to meet story progress or other requirements
- Visually craft your worlds monster encounter locations quickly and easily, setting locations, monsters found, and their levels
- Export visuals for walkthroughs or helper images, for example, your games trainer locations, monster encounter locations, etc
The list goes on. The best part about this, is that the majority of the work is finished. Adding features like this will be a relatively speed endeavor (well.. once Dokimon is more or less finished.. Ha, haha..)
So what's next for MonMae?
Well, the first order of business will be adding some new features to the world editor, while also ironing out and polishing the editor itself in general. We'll be adding things listed above in order of which we think have the highest need and interest first.
Along with that.. Here's some things we're excited to introduce into MonMae in the near future:
- New battle types that you can select at the start of your project. Currently in the works: Zelda-like battles, Final Fantasy style RPG battles
- Visual Cutscene building tool, that will let you preview the cutscene while building it, edit it later, or watch it in 2x, 3x speed (etc)
- Character Maker tool; We'd have this for both for the editor, for making characters for your game, as well as an option to include in-game
- Shop and item builder tool; Currently, making shops and items is quite simple, but putting it in the editor just makes sense
- Move Animation Builder and Editing tool; Combine different images and particle types, swap palettes, and edit speeds to make moves!
- Held items for monsters, like healing items, stat boosts, and so on
Lastly, these are some other things we've mentioned we were working on adding already, but I feel like it's worth mentioning here too:
- Advanced debug menu, with helpful options like infinite money, quick reset, all items 99x, all monsters, all mons lvl 99, etc (Basically Done)
- Eew evolution methods; evolution via items, affinity, trade, based on day/night cycle, etc
- Breeding system; 1 or 2 ways to breed monsters, with editable "egg" sprites
- Day/Night Cycle implementations; New ways to take advantage of the current Day/Night Cycle, like NPC schedules for example
- (Maybe): Option to enable abilities, with a few simple ability types that can be customized to maximize quantity/variety
