Teambuilder and Mock-up Battles come to MonMae!
The new update brings a teambuilder, which allows you to create teams in MonMae on the fly to then test in mock-battles, without ever living the MonMae visual editor^^
The teambuilder is accessible from the clashing swords icon, which is always available on the left-side of the MonMae ui. To start a mock-battle, simple press B to enter one with the current team you've created. Pressing B again will return to the teambuilder~
At any time, you can press escape to return to the main MonMae screen. Additionally, any monsters or moves you update in MonMae, will automatically update in the MonMae. So this creates a new workflow allowing you to test monsters and moves almost instantly after making/editing them.
We've also added a play button to the MonMae screen (on the left side of the UI) which jumps you straight to the title screen, allowing you to test anything you've recently editing directly in your game.
We have also slightly re-structed the UI to display the current tab (on the bottom right) when a ui tip/message isn't being displayed as well as made room for Questing and World which will be expanded on soon.
In other additions, we've allowed players to make use of "trainer backs" if they'd like to use those. Simple enable them from the battles create event to start using them.
Currently, only the boy player character has a back sprite, however more can be quickly added from the "spr_player_battle_backs" sprite.
In other additions, we've also added an "init_stats" script which allows you to rename stats, for example like "Attack" to naming of your pleasing.
Additionally, we've polished up the saves screen, the character select screen, and also add a "Type your Name" screen which allows you to name your character. This name is also displayed on your saves screen and in places like your id card.
In miscellaneous update, we've also not only fixed nearly all known bugs that we plaguing the last update, but also made some great improvements to some systems. We've also added new moves, upping the new default move count to just over 100+
Lastly, we've greatly improved and optimized the tiles system, which allows for creating areas at which monsters are found, and which monsters are found (and at what levels) in those areas.
There's a quick tutorial that displays how to use the new area system available in the MonMae discord sever, available here.
Moving forward, the teambuilder will be seeing some improvements to the UI along with more customization options, like for example customizing the enemy team in your mock-battles, or saving/loading teams to pick and choose from for mock-battles. Aside from this, we will also start moving into the "World" and "Questing" tabs which will allow you to make your game world directly in the MonMae visual editor, as well as start making quests in the visual editor as well.
This concludes the devlog for this most recent update and I hope you enjoyed the new fixes and additions, and please look forward to more updates coming soon !!
