MonMae 0.9.0: Final Touches Before 1.0 & The Road Ahead!


Hey everyone! Yana here~ I never made a 0.9.0 MonMae update so here it is

We're getting closer and closer to our 1.0 milestone, and with that I have a lot of exciting stuff to announce! Let's dive into the features of version 0.9.0 and  what's next for MonMae!

What's New in 0.9.0?

  • SFX + Follower Monster system is finished, allowing your first mon in your party to follow you at all times!

  • Inventory and Pickup Items: A more dynamic and interactive environment awaits with the introduction of an inventory system and items you can pick up! This is something that I had to spend a lot of time perfecting and getting ready to put out into the public, and it's finally here!

  • In-Battle Captal Selection Screen: With the recent additions of inventory, we also adding capture devices, which you can now choose between when attempting to capture a monster. Capture devices will be able to take advantage of multiple effects and uses.

  • Lastly, the full SFX pack has been included with the MonMae download to download for free for developers that wish to use them in the development of their games. 


  • In miscellaneous additions, we improved several of the visual effects, added new move animations, and made some other general improvements to the games UI, battle system, and some character sprites. The tilesets have also seen lots of new tiles, and will continue to grow!



The Road to 1.0 and Beyond

As we wrap up the development of version 1.0, our primary goal is to introduce a  shop, and then focus on the Visual Editor elements of MonMae. We will continue to work on the visual editor as well as adding other elements to MonMae to make it more accessible for non-GameMaker users, while also providing new features for the more experienced devs.


Once MonMae's Visual Editor is equipped to handle, modify, and augment the near full spectrum of MonMae features, we would like to work on a complete, and updated MonMae documentation, as well as more tutorials, and additionally pursue a second version of MonMae.


At that time, MonMae will split into the following:

  1. Open Code Version (MonMae Infinite): The classic MonMae experience you know and love, updated through local packages.
  2. EXE Version (MonMae Builder): A new, user-friendly variant allowing effortless updates, and easy enough building for anyone to jump in and use. We believe this version of MonMae could inspire a lot of new developers that want to try creating games at it's most basic level, and would offer it at a cheaper price.
